An Ode to My Tulips

"Something about their burnt-out hearts,
Something about their pallid stems
Wearing decay like diadems,
Parading finishes like starts,
Something about the way they twist
As if to catch the last applause,
And drink the moment through long straws,
And how, tomorrow, they’ll be missed."
- Tulips by A.E. Stallings

I bought these tulips from Superstore when spring was just starting to melt the frost on the green-brown grass. They were the first green, living thing in my very first apartment and they made me happy perched by our big bay window on the little footstool I pleasantly thought of as "that place my future cat will like to sit." Thanks for keeping me company tulips.
